The Big Game By the Numbers: Game Day Spending Beats Valentine’s Day Spending This Year

Whether you’re in it for the Eagles, the Chiefs, the Kendrick Lamar concert, Taylor Swift’s general presence, or the commercials, the Big Game is Sunday Feb. 9. And the costs of ordering food in or throwing a viewing party can add up. To get a read on how much Americans are spending this year, we performed a survey of U.S. adults to find out their top spending categories and viewing plans.

Consumers to spend more on the Big Game than on Valentine’s Day

82% of US consumers plan to watch or participate in early-year sports events with the Big Game (66%) coming on top. 72% are planning to make purchases related to those sports events.

For the Big Game specifically, shoppers are planning to spend an average of $207 (+$18 vs 2024 AND $42 more than the average American plans to spend for Valentine’s Day this year). Here’s how all the spending breaks down:

  • 1. Food/beverages: 59%
  • 2. Party supply (garland, disposable dishes, decoration): 31% 
  • 3. Television/Sound system: 29% 
  • 4. Team apparel/merchandise: 28%
